Fiona's Favourite Finds in Tisbury

Fiona's Favourite Finds in Tisbury

Since moving to Wiltshire last year, I have fallen head over heels in love with our local town of Tisbury.

Tisbury High Street is where you will step back in time and find everyone very friendly, always having time for a chat, even in the current crisis (though we are all adhering to social distancing!).  Shopping locally is a complete joy.  Nothing gives me more pleasure than finding wonderful ingredients and planning for a weekend of family and friends.

My first stop is The Fishmonger where you will find a well stocked selection of beautiful fresh fish, all sustainably sourced in Cornwall and Scotland.  Ashley is always on hand to offer recipe suggestions too. (www.thefishmongers.co.uk)

Next is Tisbury Delicatessen where there is lively conversation to be had with Simon and the girls.  Their selection of cheeses and cured meats makes for the perfect Saturday lunch.  His son Dylan produces the best cappuccinos so make sure you have time to stop and have one there or if not, take it away with you. Then it is on to the Donwner Farm butcher for locally sourced meat which never disappoints.  They also home bake the most delicious pork pies.

Saving the best till last, I finish at the Beckford Bottle Shop which stocks a range of delicious wines where guidance is always on hand for the perfect bottle.  Their selection of gin (my favourite) is very extensive and I have been working my way through their recommendations.   During this crisis they are offering a home delivery service.  (www.beckfordbottleshop.com)

Sadly the glorious flower shop, Ted Martin Flowers has had to close for the foreseeable future but we all look forward to it re-opening.

I've been so heartened by so many of the small local businesses that I love adapting themselves to the current crisis. As a #smallbusiness ourselves, I know how important it is to support each other.

Studio Zest are keeping me sane, mentally and physically.  I would normally practice Pilates several times a week with Kate but sadly our classes have been put on hold for the forseeable future.  Instead, a Strength and Conditioning class twice a week with Chloe via Zoom is keeping me going.  Its lovely to be able to have a chat at the end of the lesson and find out how everyone is coping.  This social interaction is more important than ever now.  (www.studiozest.co.uk)

Finally, within 200 yards of Seraphina's HQ is Pythouse Kitchen Garden, a beautiful walled garden with an amazing restaurant, supper club and glamping dream. Piers is now producing boxes of seasonal fruit and vegetables - plus organic eggs and dairy products - as well as pre-prepared meals, such as wild garlic and bay leaf lasagne for when you have had enough of cooking.   We're lucky enough to fall well within their 10-mile delivery radius for free delivery but you can also go and collect.  (www.pythousekitchengarden.co.uk)
